THE JIM HENSON COMPANY CELEBRATES 25TH ANNIVERSARY OF JIM HENSON’S GROUNDBREAKING FILM LABYRINTH™

Hollywood, August 18, 2011 To celebrate the 25th anniversary of The Jim Henson Company’s fantasyfeature film Labyrinth™, the Company announced today the following themed celebrations/events and product availability for fans of all ages. On Saturday, August 20 SF Sketchfest presents a 25th Anniversary celebration at the Castro Theatre in San Francisco. The event will feature live in person: famed puppeteers Brian Henson (“Hoggle,” “Sal Minella”), David Goelz (“Sir Didymus,” “Gonzo the Great,” “Dr. Bunson Honeydew”) and Karen Prell (“The Worm,” “The Junk Lady,” “Red Fraggle”) in conversation with Adam Savage (Mythbusters). On December 3, New York’s Museum of the Moving Image will present a special screening of Labyrinth with Brian Henson and Brian, Wendy, and Toby Froud in person. Tickets to the screening also include admission to Jim Henson’s Fantastic World, the Smithsonian exhibition devoted to the world-renowned puppeteer, filmmaker, and television pioneer (on view through January 16, 2012). For additional east coast fun the Company has partnered with New York based “The Awesome 80’s Prom,” which will feature a Labyrinth-themed prom throughout the month of October 2011 where fans can dance the night away to the best of Bowie.  The Jim Henson Company has joined forces with 5th Planet Games to bring the fantastical world of Labyrinth to Facebook. Beginning in fall 2011, players will have the opportunity to work with their friends to build their own Labyrinth, and to protect its heart!

 

LABYRINTH Synopsis
Frustrated with babysitting on yet another weekend night, Sarah (Jennifer Connelly), a teenager with an active imagination, summons the Goblins to take her baby stepbrother away. When little Toby actually disappears, Sarah must follow him into a fantastical world to rescue him from the Goblin King (David Bowie). Guarding his castle is the labyrinth itself, a twisted maze of deception, populated with outrageous characters and unknown dangers.

Produced by The Jim Henson Company and Lucasfilm Ltd. with creatures brought to life by Jim Henson’s Creature Shop the film was directed by Jim Henson who worked closely with acclaimed artist and Conceptual Designer, Brian Froud and Executive Producer, George Lucas to create a mesmerizing fantasy classic. Labyrinth’s dedicated fan base has only grown over the years, and the film is enjoying continued success as a classic that is now recognized as groundbreaking and wildly ahead of its time.
