The Jim Henson Company 70th Anniversary Auction in Partnership with Julien’s Auctions Opens Today

Los Angeles, California – (October 22, 2025) The Jim Henson Company and Julien’s Auctions opened today the highly anticipated THE JIM HENSON COMPANY 70^TH ANNIVERSARY AUCTION, taking place on Tuesday, November 25th, 2025 live at The Jim Henson Company in Hollywood, California and online at juliensauctions.com. 

For the first time in history, select puppets, props, and memorabilia from The Jim Henson Company—including original pieces from Fraggle Rock, The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, Labyrinth, multiple Muppet productions, and many more—will be made available to the public through auction. This momentous occasion offers fans and institutions a chance to own a piece of the visionary world that Jim Henson built.

Beginning with his first television series in 1955, Jim Henson innovated puppetry, television, film, special effects, art direction and design, in a groundbreaking career full of incredible worlds and memorable characters that brought joy and wonder to millions worldwide. With his creation of the Muppets, Fraggles, and the fantastical creatures of The Dark Crystal and Labyrinth, along with many others, Henson’s creations have become cultural icons.  Spanning more than seven decades, The Jim Henson Company’s legacy continues to impact society, humanities, education, pop culture, and entertainment today. An extraordinary collection of over 400 rare and important items from Jim Henson and the Company he founded will be presented for the first time at auction.

Heading to the auction will be several centerpieces from The Dark Crystal’s world of Thra, including two important props from The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance: the original, screen-used, full-size Crystal of Truth prop (estimate: $20,000-$30,000), the source of all life and evil in the story. Equally important is an animatronic puppet head for the villainous and conniving Skeksis, skekSil the Chamberlain (estimate: $20,000-$30,000). Previously announced offerings from The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance are the iconic Naia Drenchen Gelfling full-body puppet (estimate: $15,000 – $25,000) (photo top left); sword props used by Rian (estimate: $3,000-$5,000) and Ordon (estimate: $1,000-$2,000); skekGra the Heretic Circle of the Suns’ Skeksis chair (estimate: $4,000-$6,000), dagger and baton props (estimate: $2,000-$3,000), and Maudra Fara’s axe prop (estimate: $1,000-$2,000).

Adding further excitement to this event will be the magic of the Muppets with an array of unforgettable and beloved pieces from the most celebrated Muppet movies, TV series and specials. Stealing the spotlight are iconic style items from Miss Piggy, including: her iconic lavender suede heels (estimate: $7,000-$9,000) (photo left) worn in The Great Muppet Caper‘s beloved bicycle scene, considered one of the greatest Muppet moments of all time with all of the Muppets singing and riding bicycles alongside Miss Piggy and Kermit the Frog; Miss Piggy’s signature lavender, four-fingered gloves with purple “jewel” cocktail ring from “The Art of The Muppets” exhibit that travelled the United States from 1979 – 1986 (estimate: $3,000-$5,000); Miss Piggy’s costume and vase seen in her rendition of Vermeer’s 1664 painting, “Woman with a Pearl Necklace,” from the 1984 calendar, “Miss Piggy’s Art Masterpiece Calendar: Treasures from the Kermitage Collection,” (estimate: $4,000-$6,000); an original Miss Piggy Cover Girl 1981 Fantasy Calendar signed by Miss Piggy herself (estimate: $1,000-$2,000) , as well as her perfume atomizer, hand mirror, French style telephone from photoshoots and more. From The Muppets Take Manhattan comes Baby Kermit’s rocking chair (estimate: $2,000-$3,000), used in the “I’m Gonna Always Love You” musical dream sequence, notable for the circular puppeteering hole in its seat. Also featured is the hero treasure map prop (estimate: $3,000-$5,000) seen in the classic film Muppet Treasure Island. Fans of The Muppet Christmas Carol will also be delighted by the appearances of the schoolroom busts of Aristotle, Dante, Molière, and Shakespeare (with Broken Nose) that were in Ebenezer Scrooge’s school (estimate each: $3,000-$5,000).

From the beloved Fraggle Rock series, the auction features two of the most sought-after full-body puppets: the intrepid explorer Uncle Travelling Matt (estimate: $40,000-$60,000) and mustachioed Doozer Puppet (estimate: $30,000-$50,000) . As one of the small, green, helmet-sporting creatures who tirelessly build structures (only for Fraggles to eat them), the Doozer puppet represents the iconic work ethic of Fraggle Rock’s tiniest inhabitants.   

Five full-body puppets from the children’s series The Hoobs—Iver, Tula, Groove, Roma, and Hubba Hubba—each estimated at $10,000-$20,000; a Goblin Helmet (estimate: $2,000-$3,000) from Labyrinth; a Tiffany-Style Kermit the Frog Lamp (estimate: $1,000-$2,000) from the 1997 Signature Collection and other treasures will also be offered.

A collection of handmade artwork from Sesame Street’s legendary puppeteer Caroll Spinney (Big Bird, Oscar the Grouch) featuring the landmark children’s television show’s beloved characters will be joining the fun. Artwork includes his original 1996 painting triptych titled “Luna Bird” featuring Big Bird and Oscar the Grouch (estimate: $12,000-$18,000); original painting titled “Summer’s Eve” featuring Big Bird, Oscar the Grouch, Elmo, Bert, Ernie, Zoe, and Mr. Snuffleupagus (estimate: $10,000-$15,000); original painting titled “Fun with Numbers” featuring Big Bird, Oscar the Grouch, Elmo, Bert, Ernie, Cookie Monster, Super Grover, The Count, Telly, Zoe, Mr. Snuffleupagus, Barkley, and Herry Monster riding a train through hill tops surrounded by numbers (estimate: $10,000-$15,000); and more!

Proceeds from the auction will support the work of The Jim Henson Company’s Archives.
