HOLLYWOOD, Calif. (October 18, 2011) — The Spanish version of the Emmy®
– nominated animated PBS KIDS® series SID THE SCIENCE KID™ — SID EL NIÑO CIENTIFICO™ — has been added to the programming lineup of Los Angeles PBS affiliate KLCS-TV, airing weekdays at 1 p.m.
KLCS added SID EL NIÑO CIENTIFICO to its schedule in September. The 30-minute animated program was added to help bilingual and Spanish-speaking preschoolers discover fresh science themes in the world around them.
“KLCS serves a diverse demographic in Southern California, and we believe that they are providing a valuable service to the community by adding Sid El Niño Cientifico to their line up,” said Lisa Henson, CEO of The Jim Henson Company and executive producer on the series.
KLCS – The Education Station – is a noncommercial educational television station licensed to the Los Angeles Unified School District and is a member of the Public Broadcasting Service. A multiple Emmy Award winner, KLCS broadcasts on channels 58.1 through 58.4 to over 16 million viewers throughout Southern California. KLCS also is carried on DIRECTV, DISH Network, and most cable systems.
“We are excited about airing Sid El Niño Cientifico because this series exemplifies our genuine commitment to serve the interests of the multifaceted community of Southern California,” says Sabrina Thomas, KLCS director of programming and operations.
“We believe that exposing kids to quality educational content at an early age has a significant impact on their ability to build meaningful connections with curricular concepts,” adds Jorge Briseño, KLCS director of instructional programming. “Sid El Niño Cientifico does just that in a language that allows many of our youngest viewers to share the experience with their parents; that adds tremendously to its value.”
SID THE SCIENCE KID (PBSKIDS.org/sid) is part of a long line of successful preschool programming from The Jim Henson Company that includes the recent smash hit DINOSAUR TRAIN as well as FRAGGLE ROCK, BEAR IN THE BIG BLUE HOUSE and PAJANIMALS.
