Feature Film Production Academic Credit Only / Unpaid Internship

The Jim Henson Feature Films dept. is seeking interns who are passionate about film development and production. Interns will support the team in the creative development of live action and animated movies by providing coverage of scripts, books, and other materials, and collaborating on special assignments and projects. This unpaid internship is only open to current students who will receive academic credit for their participation and must have in-person availability for 2-3 days a week. The ideal candidate is a skilled writer and communicator who enjoys exploring new concepts and working collaboratively. Prior coverage experience preferred.

PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

Provide general office and administrative support in the company’s marketing department, especially in social media. The candidate will be expected to work a maximum of twenty (20) hours a week.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS

• Will identify social trends and assist in generating content ideas that leverage those opportunities.
• Will assist in scheduling and publishing social content related to The Jim Henson Company’s brands.
• Will draft original posts and digital content for The Jim Henson Company’s social media platforms.
• Will work closely with members of a variety of company teams, including legal, sales, creative affairs, and executive.
• Will assist with general office support, telephones, and filing.

JOB-RELATED QUALIFICATION STANDARDS

• Understanding of publishing on social platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, and Snapchat.  
• Experience with databases, particularly Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Experience in Google Analytics and social platform analytics is a plus.
• Proficiency in creating social content including editing video clips and gifs are a plus.  
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
• Ability to multitask and get work completed on or before deadlines.

This internship takes place in-person, on the historic Charlie Chaplin lot in Hollywood. You will shadow and support the Manager, Digital Production throughout the internship. You will see how our company functions from behind the scenes and play a large role in contributing to our goals.

TITLE: DCS Editorial/Production Intern

DEPT. NAME: Digital Creature Shop

LOCATION: Hollywood

Who you are:

• A junior or senior majoring in film/video production

• Proven fluency in video editing (Adobe Premiere Pro)

• Experience as a crew member on multiple student film sets.

• The position requires some manual labor (moving and setting up equipment)

• Reliable team member with a positive, collaborative attitude.

• Competence in one (or more) of the following areas is a plus: production audio, DIT management, lighting, basic camera operation

• Familiarity with animation workflows, Maya and/or Unreal Engine is a plus

JHC’s DCS Production Internship is open to college students who are currently enrolled in an accredited U.S. college or university. Candidates must be available a minimum of 16 hours per week (days and hours to be determined).

What you will do:

• Take on editing responsibilities for Henson social media and web videos. This includes ingesting & organizing audio and camera files, editing audio and

  • video in Adobe Premiere Pro, and exporting for social media and web platforms.

  • Be a key production resource for productions in the DCS “mini-studio”. This is a space that we use to produce social media content and other small projects. You will assist users with camera operation, audio recording, file management, and possibly video editing.

  • Production assistant for the DCS department: move, set up, and strike computers, cables, set elements as needed

  • Assist with organization and inventory management of DCS equipment

  College-Credit

  • This internship is an unpaid position open to all current students who will receive school credit for the internship.

Jim Henson NY Creature Shop College Credit Internship

Are you a DIY handyperson who enjoys figuring out how things work and why? Are you obsessed with finding creative ways to organize tools and materials? Then this internship is perfect for you!

Jim Henson’s NY Creature Shop is a high-end creature design and fabrication studio. We build custom puppets, props and costumes, and we’re looking for someone who is excited about working in this inspiring environment – supporting projects and builders with the logistical work that goes into running a shop.

Our ideal candidate is serious about being organized. Sculpting, building, and/or sewing skills are a plus, but not required.

What You Will Learn:
• The nitty gritty of what it takes to run a puppet workshop.
• The sources and characteristics of a wide variety of materials.
• How to creatively organize space to facilitate efficient workflow.
• What it takes to run a successful puppet shop.
• Basic building techniques when the opportunity presents.

What We Require:
• Positive attitude.
• Organized, with an ability to prioritize time-sensitive assignments.
• Creative and Flexible.
• Familiarity with basic workshop tools and materials, but we will also train.
• Interest in puppetry and building techniques used in puppet fabrication.

You will become extremely knowledgeable in material types and sourcing, a master at judging different foam densities and thickness, and understanding the right uses for each. You will also learn how to work in a professional environment and have ample opportunity to network with puppet builders and other professionals in the puppetry field.

This is a part-time college credit internship.

Details:
This internship is for school credit. The position begins immediately and runs for approximately 3 months. You are expected to work 8 – 24 hours (1 – 3 days) a week.
