When Jim and his team went into the studio to film commercials for the Community Coffee Company of Baton Rouge and the Wilson’s Meat Company of Chicago, he was continuing two important relationships. Jim had been making coffee commercials featuring his Wilkins and Wontkins characters for Community since 1959 and by the time they abandoned the campaign in 1970, Jim had made almost 40 spots for them. Learn about Jim’s work for them and other coffee companies. Here and here.

Jim’s work for the Wilson’s company spanned a shorter period, starting in 1965 and running three years, but in the preparation of two extensive sales meeting films, Jim had gotten to know the executives there quite well. He and his team also got to know the product well, sampling the items that they were advertising both under the Wilson’s name and their brand Briggs, including festival ham, bacon, franks, cold cuts, pork sausage, luncheon meats, and canned ham. They made 24 spots, similar to the 10-second Wilkins Coffee ones, but they featured the duo of Skip and Scoop in 20-second appearances.
